Garage
Planning
How big should a two car garage be? Why?
The average car is about 6 ft wide, between 11-15 ft long, and its door's width opens to around 3 ft. With these measurements, an ideal two car garage will have a length of 20 ft, and a width of 21 ft to allow enough space between each car to comfortably open a 3 ft door and to have 3 ft of space around the width of each car to walk around it. This leaves a minimum of 2.5 ft in front of and behind each car.
Where should windows be placed in a garage? Why?
Windows in a garage are generally small enough to let light in, but also high enough so that no one can look inside, providing a sense of privacy and security.

Description
As a class, we learned how to use Revit architecture software to design our very own two car garage. Over the course of three classes, each of us constructed the walls, doors, windows and roof of our garage. We then constructed our own materials in the program to paint the floor, roof and walls, to add a creative touch. Finally, we created the outside topography and driveway using the material software to make grass and asphalt. This assignment was a great introduction to learning how to use design software and to learn the basics of architecture.
