General Description: I intend to design a contemporary, two level, family vacation home. The indoor and outdoor style will be minimalist and modern, with an open floor plan, and lot's of windows to provide bright open spaces. The LEED category I will incorporate into my project will be the use of sustainable, Eco-friendly materials. These materials will include concrete and glass for the exterior, and stone finishes for the interior. Concrete is durable, can be made from an abundance of different materials including limestone, and has a high thermal mass which will reduce the need for heating and air conditioning. Both stone and glass is fully recyclable, inert, and made from abundant materials such as sand. The home will be able to occupy an average sized family of about 4-6 people. There will be three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, as well as a garage, and an outdoor space for relaxing.
Site: My house is a single building located in a tropical mountainous landscape close to the beach. It will have a garage, and its own secluded outdoor space with a pool, which will connect to the beach. The location of the house will be in Hanalei, Kauai.
Budget: The approximate budget for the house in this area would be around $3.6 million.
